City Carrier Assistant Makes Regular

                              HELLO FELLOW CARRIERS

I am a City Carrier from Branch 1630. I am a former Temporary Relief Carrier (TRC),  Rural Carrier Associate (RCA), a former Transitional Employee (TE), a former City Carrier Assistant (CCA) and I just made Unassigned Regular this Saturday September 19. So all together, I have given the Postal Service almost seven years of my life. I am a part of the NALC and hold several positions in my local branch. My goal for starting this blog is to get all carriers involved whether you are CCA or Regular to push the City Carrier Assistant Buy Back Option. The California State Association of Letter Carriers were the first that I have seen to bring this to the forefront. I believe that all former TE/CCA's could appreciate the opportunity to get the time that they have invested with the Postal Service added to their retirement. The transition from TE to CCA was a difficult bout for everyone in that position. A 27% decrease in pay and no guarantee when you would get a career position. I was also in the United States Air Force before and I feel that if we can buy our military time back we should be able to buy back the time we put in the USPS. If you scroll down to the first posting of this blog, you will see the City Carrier Assistant Buy Back Option that I plan on presenting at my regional convention. The main goal is to get this plan in circulation before the contract negotiations and the NALC National Convention in 2016. I will post a weekly blog on my steps into the career position, the transition for not doing any overtime, having two days off a week, transferring my CCA retirement plan to Thrift Savings, and just the relief of being regular. Feel free to bring this up at your next local union meeting and get involved with the process. Until then, be safe and keep your dog spray near!
